  • Leave Replacement: 5th Humanities/ELA/Social Studies Teacher (January 20 - April 7, 2025)

    Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County is a warm, inclusive Jewish Day School that educates children from Early Childhood through Eighth Grade with a vigorous dual curriculum in General and Judaic studies. We inspire our students to be engaged, independent learners who embrace Jewish values and practices and strive with confidence and compassion to better the world.

    We are seeking highly qualified, passionate, and collaborative teachers. Candidates will be role models who can help foster our students’ social, emotional, and academic growth, implement a variety of instructional strategies, and who have familiarity with the latest educational models to enhance student learning for the 21st century. Educators who have experience with Universal Design for Learning, the Science of Reading, Design Thinking, and comfort and flexibility with teaching students with disabilities and English language learners in inclusive settings are highly encouraged to apply. 

    The ideal candidate has:
    • Degree in Elementary Education/Students with Disabilities 1-6 or secondary education
    • A deep understanding of effective instruction and content 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • An understanding of child development and how social emotional factors impact learning
    • An ability to build relationships with students that foster a positive classroom environment where students feel safe to make mistakes and take academic risks
    • A belief that all children can learn at high levels with the appropriate supports
    • An understanding that parents are our partners in supporting the learning of each child
    • Experience with or willingness to be trained in using Responsive Classroom techniques and strategies
    Schechter Bergen Teacher Responsibilities:
    • Teach Literacy & Social Studies, full time for three 5th grade sections
    • Maintain accurate and consistent records of evidence of students learning  
    • Communicate regularly with parents through conferences, emails, and phone calls to discuss students' individual learning progress, sharing successes and working in partnership to enhance student development
    • Collaborate with learning specialists to create plans of support for identified students
    • Engage with school based coaches and fellow educators in team meetings to continuously learn and grow as an educator

  • Volleyball Coach

    Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County is a warm, inclusive Jewish Day School that educates children from Early Childhood through Eighth Grade with a vigorous dual curriculum in General and Judaic studies. We inspire our students to be engaged, independent learners who embrace Jewish values and practices and strive with confidence and compassion to better the world.
     
    We are seeking a Head Volleyball Coach to begin 9/09/2024. The season ends on 11/07/2024. 

    The paid stipend is $6,000. The coach will run both an instructional program as well as an interscholastic program. 

    Responsibilities: 
    • Organize and lead practices & games
      • Instructional Volleyball - Monday & Wednesday 3:30 - 4:30pm
      • Interscholastic Volleyball - Monday & Wednesday 4:30 - 6pm
        • Interscholastic Games are scheduled closer to the start of the season and are scheduled on weekdays (Monday - Thursday)
    • Teach players the rules, regulations, equipment, technique, and in-game strategy
    • Analyze players' strengths and areas for growth; helping them improve their skills and performance
    • Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and camaraderie, and developing players' confidence and competitive spirit
    • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times.
    • Maintain and secure all volleyball equipment.
    • React to change productively and handle other related tasks as assigned.
    • Travel to away games via school provided buses.
    • Communicate with players, parents, and community members. 
    • Must have First Aid, CPR and Concussion protocol training. 
      • May obtain after being hired

    Coach will directly report to Garry Schragenheim (Athletic Director/MS Dean of Students)
